Dranandra in the Fall

Dranandra is a flower not noticed or appreciated in the summer but it comes into its beauty in the fall when the blossoms break forth into myriad colors.  Leaves with inner section show a rich burgundy vein.  The stem sprouts a thistlelike edge which appears to be sharp thorns; however, upon examination these are extremely soft to the touch.  Each thorn secrets a drop of burgundy colored liquid which is sweet and a choice nectar for insects.  Few Master Gardeners have seen this mythical flower.
